About our school

Glaisdale (3) (Large)About our school

What is it like to attend this school?

Our staff are committed to providing a wealth of opportunities to all pupils. Our broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum is grounded in the locality and we pride ourselves on having strong community links. We are currently developing our bespoke ‘moors school’ curriculum, making regular and responsible use of our fantastic location in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. We have 1:1 iPads for all pupils and use these to support teaching and learning across the curriculum. Pupils are provided with a wide range of extra-curricular activities and we are developing our PE provision to incorporate exciting aspects such as archery and mountain biking, in addition to the usual areas of swimming, gymnastics and dance! We offer instrumental lessons taught by a peripatetic teacher and pupils have the opportunity to compete in cross-school events linked to a wide range of curriculum areas.  Many pupils enjoy taking on leadership responsibilities, including being a school council representative.

We are proud to be a founding member of the Yorkshire Endeavour Academy Trust and opportunities to work collaboratively with pupils from other schools within the Trust are actively planned into the school year. We ensure that pupils from our small village community have opportunities to develop confidence and build relationships with their peers beyond Glaisdale, in preparation for their eventual transition to secondary school.

Staff have high expectations of all pupils and are keen to develop their resilience, independence and communication skills. Staff, pupils, parents and governors have worked together to create a set of oaths, which aim to enhance pupils’ broader development during their time at Glaisdale in order to ensure that all pupils are effectively prepared for the next stage of their educational journey.
