Our Mission Statement

Our main purpose is to provide a secure, caring, happy and welcoming environment to which we all can contribute; which promotes in children a pride in self and the highest possible standards of work and behaviour; which considers the quality of teaching and learning to be central to its success.

We want all our children to succeed, and to be successful, we believe it is important for children to develop a confident and positive attitude to learning. To help them achieve this, we strive to create a stimulating learning environment, to provide opportunities for all children to reach their full potential and to support their individual efforts. We provide children with a rich, broad, balanced and appropriate curriculum, taking into account their individual needs and using a variety of teaching methods to help them learn.

We understand the importance of motivation in achieving success. We think it is vital that our children want to learn and we acknowledge their individual successes to promote feelings of high esteem. We have high expectations of all our children, we encourage them to work hard and we consider it part of our task to ensure that they acquire the skills to extend their own learning.

As a school, we recognise the importance of building close relationships between children, parents and teachers. Our aim is to ensure that we all work together in a relationship of co-operation and trust for the benefit of each of our children.

Ethos

The school has a very caring ethos. The children here are known well and individuality is highly valued. A wide range of teaching styles is used to ensure that all children are able to access all aspects of a broad and balanced curriculum.

The school is pro-active in promoting a healthy lifestyle. Children are encouraged to have a healthy school meal in the middle of the day and we provide a fruit snack at mid-morning break. We have a wide range of play equipment, which the children use at play times and we now have a third terrace of the school garden which is covered in Astroturf fitted with large climbing equipment. The PE curriculum includes games, gymnastics, dance and swimming.


Each child is part of a school team and can earn team points for good work, good behaviour, co-operative play and being helpful. School teams take part in our annual school sports, a fun event that involves the whole community.

Collaborative projects are a strength of the school. Older and more able pupils are paired with younger pupils or beginner readers so that they can work together and learn from each other. The activities engaged in so far range from writing a Christmas story to designing post cards from foreign countries and from number games to craft activities.
